Some Doctor Who fans might find this one particularly stupid, as it was really quite inane. The premise is that they land on Earth in their time, but they are mistakenly miniaturized. They witness a murder and have to find a way to alert the police as little people. It's a lot harder than you might think.
The Borrowers was one of my favorite series growing up, and I used to wonder what it would be like to be miniature. And I don't think I'm the only child who has ever thought this, so I'm sure Doctor Who children fans really found this one delightful.
I think the props people had a great time making this, as they had to give the illusion that everything was 100x larger. A lot had to do with camera angle, I think. I thought they did a remarkable job with the detail, such as the sink scenes.
This time it is Barbara who ends up ill and falling over throughout the episode, but she wasn't annoying. about it If Susan had become ill, I would have barfed all over the place. Her acting makes me downright nauseous. I haven't kept perfect track, but I think she has screamed "Grandfather!" in every single blasted episode. Maybe this is her thing, but I wish she wouldn't be so annoying about it.
I noticed that Ian is wearing a dapper suit for the first time. I don't know if they are trying to replace his 'doting father' character to one which is more sophisticated and suave. I'm not certain if he has pulled it off, yet. I have noticed that the Doctor and Ian are having more one-on-one moments in which Ian yells at the Doctor to fix the problem, while the Doctor acts like an indignant child. Usually Ian has to fix things, while the Doctor stammers all over the place, but Ian now seems to expect the Doctor to come up with all the answers. In short, the Doctor is appearing as more of a hero.
Let us play brief homage to all the very large insects. Pet me, people! I am your ant friend!
And who could not appreciate Ian hiding in a matchbox? Ain't he cute?
I really think they had a great time with this episode. I am willing to appreciate its silliness.
Next up: The Dalek Invasion of Earth
OH YEAH!
