2.3 The Rescue

Mercifully, this was only two chapters.

What in the blazes was this one about?

I think the sole purpose of this was to introduce a new companion, because we so very desperately needed to replace Susan's character.  That's sarcasm.

This girl seems slightly unhinged, and is young in this episode.  So why replace a twit with another twit? But as this is only two chapters, I really don't have any feelings about her character just yet.  My initial reaction is that I will hate her, but that's my initial reaction to everyone in this show. Her name is 'Vicki', and she makes me 'sicki'.

The Doctor has been to this planet before. This is peculiar.

The Doctor is facing some sort of mental crisis in leaving Susan behind.  Barbara and Ian decide to go exploring, while the Doctor presumably munches some anti-depressant and has a good lie down.

Vicki and Bennett have crashed onto this planet, which is called Dido. I want to make a joke about this name, but it would be in poor taste.

Bennett is paralyzed, but it turns out he isn't, and he's been dressing up as a creature named Koquillion.  He has killed the other people who were on board the ship, as well as the natives of Dido. He is also doing this to trick Vicki, so that when they are rescued she won't question his story.  Why doesn't he just kill her?  He has no trouble killing anyone else.

Talk about a man with multiple personalities! But that's okay, Vicki is a little weird, herself.  I would be if I were stuck on a planet with no one to talk to except a crazy man.

Barbara accidentally kills Vicki's pet creature.  Vicki has an aneurism and we shrug our shoulders.  What is up with all these pet creatures?????? I shall call you George!

Thankfully there are two Didonians still alive --- always with the two --- and they dispatch with Bennett, and shut down the space ship so that no one else can land on their planet.  There is nothing left to do but have Vicki join them on their travels. If it had been me, I would have just left her there.  I'm sorry, but I'm not a kind soul. Can you tell?

Yes, we have all lost our minds.

The Doctor Who theme song keeps playing in my brain today.  I hate you.

Next up: The Romans
