9.5 The Time Monster
I'm really feeling bad for the Master. Nothing ever goes right for him. Is it bad that I keep rooting for him? Surely this time he will succeed! He puts forth such a valiant effort. This time the Master has been busy masquerading as a professor named Thascalos. He must have been establishing his role for some time as he is well respected. Either that, he kidnapped or killed the real professor. The Master has a crystal, which he is obviously going to use for a really bad reason. Thascalos is Greek for Master. How come we didn't see that one coming?
Whenever the Doctor dreams, it means bad things are about to happen. Can't he ever have a normal life?
Perhaps TOMTIT would not be the best choice of acronyms. Doesn't it seem wrong? The Master is very strange. The TOMTIT is not to be confused with the Time Destructor, invented by the Daleks, which is also used to change time. The Daleks' one was better.
The Master is also incapable of charming women. He really isn't good with the ladies. Pertwee is a much better womanizer.
The Master attempts to summon Kronos, a time eater, which is from ancient Atlantis time. The Atlanteans fear Kronos' power. The Master is all giddy because he can summon and control Kronos at will. He's also transported an Atlantean high priest, which is the closest he gets to having a minion. I'm not really sure the purpose of the high priest. He didn't really seem to need him. Unfortunately, Krasis isn't really into the Master, and is quite annoyed at the evil purpose of the Master.
The Master and the Doctor act like little boys when the Doctor follows the Master through time by putting his TARDIS inside the Master's TARDIS, which is inside the Doctor's TARDIS. Well that's a bit confusing. Thanks to the Master, the Doctor sent into a Time Vortex and Jo merely has to pull a red lever in the TARDIS to free him. All it took was a red lever? Thank goodness for red levers!
Kronos is actually a nice lady, which the Master completely underestimates. Again, he is thwarted in his evil plan. Kronos wants to keep the Master, and torture him a bit, but the Doctor convinces Kronos that the Master will meet justice. However, the Master runs to his time machine and escapes. Tsk tsk. That's okay. He'll probably be back.
Atlantis is still destroyed, which I half expected. I thought it would be interesting if it wasn't destroyed, but that sort of thing would really disrupt history's timeline. This is the third time that Atlantis has been mentioned in Doctor Who history.
A Baby Benton. Now that is funny!
